A sprawling collective of projects, musicians, magazines, presses, artists, writers, noisemakers, and media moguls begun in 2005, we are in our sixth year nearing the mastery of publishing and promotion. Anything but refried, we are often accused of over-copious ambition.
From the beginning, we have embraced the simple notion that the personal is political and resolutely rejected the idea that politics should be left out of literature or art. Indeed, somewhere inside we feel that the irresponsibility of creators in western civilization has played a fundamental role in its decline. Not that we regret said decline, only that we were watching.
Thus it was that our first-ever disproduction was "political." Over the course of the years to come, we have become more comfortable in being the odd folks out when it comes to outright incendiary political messages, acquiring Thirst For Fire in 2009 to make the point. We have come to associate ourselves with the CrimethInc. arts movement and are rather unapologetic about demanding an end to domination, hierarchy, and corporate capitalism. Meantime, we trudge on, beautifying this raped mental landscape as often and as importantly as we can.
We remain at the bleeding edge of innovation due to our young spirits and tireless minds. We welcome ideas, donations, and hands at our studio office: 1929 W. North Ave Apt. 3 Baltimore MD 21217. Our phone number is 443-560-8640. Our e-mail address is notes@disproductions.org.
Sickle is a culturally important project in that it presupposes the idea that we, the people of the world, have sewn the seeds of the world, and thus it is our time and turn to reap the harvest -- not the owners.
